The North Carolina Home Builders Educational and Charitable Foundation recently awarded scholarships to two students who are pursuing degrees in a construction-related field. Both of these students are immediate family members of an NCHBA member and represent the future of the home building industry.

NCHBA wishes to congratulate the following 2018 scholarship recipients:

Joshua Avery – Joshua majors in Construction Management at East Carolina University. He is the son of Judy Avery, a member of the Craven/Pamlico HBA. He received a $3,000 scholarship.

Claire Folk – Claire majors in Civil Engineering at The University of South Carolina. She is the daughter of Chris Folk, who is a member of the HBA of Greater Charlotte. She was awarded $3,000 in scholarships, which includes a $500 scholarship from the NC Professional Women in Building.

The NCHBECF raises money throughout the year to benefit these scholarships. The largest fundraiser is the annual Builder Classic Golf Tournament, which is held annually in April. NCHBA members have been dedicated supporters of this event. Since 2002, the tournament has raised more than $145,000 for the future leaders of our industry.

To be eligible for a scholarship, a student must be nominated by an NCHBA member firm; be an immediate family member, related by blood (i.e. children, step-children or grandchildren), of an NCHBA member; and be a full-time student taking a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester. Awards are for one year, but scholarship winners may submit a renewal application and be considered for renewal if they make satisfactory progress in their studies.

Congratulations to these worthy students!
