During NCHBA’s 4th Quarter Board Meeting, 2020 President Mark Martin announced that the North Carolina Home Builders Educational and Charitable Foundation, Inc. has committed $100,000 to establish the J. Michael Carpenter Scholarship Fund. Each year a scholarship will be awarded to a student attending North Carolina State University. The scholarship honors the extraordinary contributions of longtime NCHBA Executive Vice President and General Counsel Mike Carpenter.

Carpenter first joined the NCHBA staff in 1989 as Director of Government Affairs and General Counsel and assumed the role of Executive Vice President in 2000. Carpenter announced in 2019 that he would retire from his current position at the end of 2020. He will remain part of the NCHBA staff as General Counsel and will continue to be an influential lobbyist on behalf NCHBA’s approximately 14,000 member firms.
